Deep Water Dredging and maintenance in Offshore Industry

 

RESON is involved in a project of Deepwater Excavating and Soil

relocation.

Removal and relocation of soil at depths as deep as 2500m is a

challenge.

The deepwater hydraulic excavator is specially designed for this task.

Operated from the vessel the excavator crawls its way over the seabed.

The excavator removes soil and places soil around the legs of rigs

with high precision. It is also used to maintain offshore facilities

or to tear down the object in an environmental safe way.

As the whole system is remotely operated co-operation between the

excavator, sensors, software and operator is very important. To

combine all the tasks software was necessary to guide the operator.

And in order to keep it safe and simple the software has to be

intuitive and easy to use.

RESON was involved in the development of the excavator and software

for deepwater excavating. This paper is about the challenges that are

met at those deepwater operations and how the solution was made.

Challenges at deepwater is obviously the depth but also the required

accuracy at which the system should work at those depths.

 

The system will be in operation in May 2012. At this moment the first

seatrials are carried out and successful.
